There are several different version of the COM2000/2002, made by different manufacturers. This one was very easy to disassemble, just a few clips. The end 'button' just levers off and the rest just pulls apart. Different Com2000s have different stalks, so your method may differ.lion5 wrote: how did you go about splitting the stalk?

Hi!
If anybody is curious about the steering angle sensor for the ESP:
its right under the main PCB board. There are magnets fitted to the center of the two wheels. They are not the same size, so I guess the unit measures the "difference" of their magnetic fields. Seems to be "endless"

This topic helps show how to remove the airbag, steering wheel and then the COM2000 unit from the C3

I think I have the answer to the delphi com2000 headlights flashing issue. Basically as you turn the steering wheel the headlights flash. Within the indicator stalk you have a switch for the headlights. Continuity testing shows it indicates all positions to the electronics; off, dipped, on. Its a single pole switch indicating all three positions. I suspect it goes open circuit, not indicating any position and thus the electronics get confused. I opened up the stalk and we can see a flexible plastic pcb with contacts on it, as can be seen by the photo earlier in the thread. The contact points get indented/dimpled and don't contact properly. What I did is cleaned them up with alcohol, and then rubbed them with an eraser for cleaning up electrical contacts. I then coated them in soldering flux, and using a 20w soldering iron, gave them a coating of solder; in effect refurbishing the contacts. After this, no more flashing headlights!
I repeated this for the wipers stalk. The condition of the wiper stalk contacts were much worse, so they definitly benefited from a coating of solder and hopefully they will be good for another 5 years! Interestingly, checking continuity shows off position is not indicated to the electronics; only 1st and 2nd positions. So its a single pole 3 position switch but only positions 2 and 3 contact. So the switch either works or doesn't and there is no fancy electronics behind it.
While at it, cleaned up all contacts inside the unit, and bent some of the contacts a little to provide a bit more pressure. The contacts on the internal unit were pretty good so they just needed good clean up; it would be a shame to coat the gold plating with solder, so don't do this!
I also checked all the cables for the airbag and horn, ensuring there was no open circuits. You can do this by temporarily removing the metal tab on the two connectors on either side of the unit at the bottom of the unit (this serves to short the two contacts per connectors together; maybe to discharge any voltage build up on the airbag when the connectors are removed to prevent an airbag release). The pcb needs to be removed which can be done by carefully turning the clock spring a little and wiggling the circuit board out. Don't disassemble the clock spring! Then insert a piece of wire at the airbag end and check continuity; there are two connectors for the horn and two for each airbag connector). Despite checking all these cables and finding no open circuits, the airbag light remains on, so I suspect the airbag fault needs clearing on the ECU for the airbag? Any help on this would be appreciated, but I am 100% sure there is no open circuits on the clock spring wiring!
Final tip in my cleanup is to remove the old thick grease and replace with fresh lithium grease. Spray a little contact cleaner into the ribbon cable connectors for the stalks.
I marked up the steering wheel and spline with permanent marker before disassembly, to ensure it went back on exactly as it came off! Also loose the nut 4/5 turns and then pull the wheel loose; saves any nasty accidents knock teeth out, etc, as the steering wheel will hit the bolt before your chin! Putting the wheel on lock makes it easier to unscrew as well, especially the initially tension, and helps when tightening up as well.

Hope this will help someone; we seem good now. May report back in a couple of weeks when given the refreshed com2000 sufficient testing.
My research shows the original DAV units were rubbish, and the successor was the delphi units, which seemed much more reliable. I believe there are other manufacturer types about, but I am not familiar what happened post delphi.
BTW this was for a Peugeot 206, but we know Peugot/Citroen is the same company and alot of part shared? Anyhow this seems to be the best thread for the com2000, and the photos really helped me with disassembly, etc. Thanks to the earlier posters for posting photos, etc

Thanks for sharing your findingsamunro wrote:I think I have the answer to the delphi com2000 headlights flashing issue

Yes, the COM2002 currently in my C3 is from a Peugeot 1007, which seems to be the 'brother from another mother' for the C3.amunro wrote:BTW this was for a Peugeot 206, but we know Peugot/Citroen is the same company and alot of part shared?

Read codes with lexia tool or Peugeot Planet (its the same hardware for either), because you will need it to locate the fault, could be passenger air bag, seat belt pre-tensioners on either side or the rear facing child seat air bag disable switch....

I just repaired the original delphi com2000 from my sisters car. Gave the stalk contacts a coating of solder. Cleaned them up good with some alcohol and ear buds, a quick rub with a pencil eraser, then coated with some flux and then a thin coat of solder using a 20w iron. On the indicator stalk, several of the contacts had disintegrated, especially when touched with the soldering iron. So cut some new contacts from a strip of solder coated copper, soldered them to the remaining tracks on the pc. Then used a bit of super glue to glue them on, and when that was set, used some epoxy around the new contacts to seal them in even better and to raise the pc a bit around the contacts, as the new contacts are slightly more raised. Then a smear of grease over the contacts and reassembled the stalk. Tested the contacts with a multimeter and they are working perfectly. Thus it is possible to repair the stalks if the contacts are worn away (with some patience and time). Occurs to me a 2003 com2003 salvaged from an old car is going to be worn anyway, so the refurb is probably necessary. If the contacts are good, a coating of new solder doesn't take long. The alternative is a costly new com2000, if one can be found? Some photos; the square contacts are the new ones. You can see the benefits of a coat of solder!
Sister advises the other one has been working fine for two weeks now so will keep this as a spare. Ebay gouge too much when selling stuff, and what with the post, etc, its not worth the effort. So we will keep this as a spare

Well done, great pictures and advice for others to follow, along with the knowledge that it can be done! Thank you.amunro wrote:I just repaired the original delphi com2000 from my sisters car.

Its just a bad design. I have a Fiesta Mk5/6 and its so much better designed. Stalks either side plugin, and a failed stalk is a 30 min replacement, and ones can be found on ebay for a fiver. Had a problem with the wash wipe button; tried to fix it but it didn't work and a fiver got me a replacement on ebay, which has worked fine since.

Continuing with the airbag light... I got a pp2000/lexia/diagbox off the internet, including the special adapter cable. Diagbox install was a bit of a nightmare but managed to get it installed up to V7.57 using windows 7 32bit. Even using the software is awful. You would think a company like PSA would provide better diagnostics. Kind of puts me off PSA cars.
Anyway the error I got off pp2000 Airbag ECU was permanent configuration error. It appears when you change a com2000, the ecu sets itself back to defaults. After playing round with the airbag ecu config, and turning back on seatbelt pretensioners, the permanant configuration error could be cleared. I can't think why the settings would change, unless its a safety feature to ensure they are reconfigured any time an airbag component is replaced? Thus a com2000 replacement cannot be done properly unless you have pp2000 and odb adapter cable?
Despite the difficulties installing diagbox/lexia/pp2000 (its uses one installer), diagbox does appear to support almost all recent cars made by peugeot/citreon, and the latest versions also support some chinese cars (assume psa company in china?). Thus it will be useful if I get a psa car, or the neighbour needs help with his ds3!
My tip: buy off aliexpress and get it half the price you will pay on ebay! Worth the 10 day wait for delivery. Make sure you buy off a seller who has been in business several years and has good feedback.
Hope this helps someone and you don't end up going to psa and spending alot of money!
