Hi,

I have recently bought a citroen c3 1.4 hdi exclusive 2002 (52) which I really like.

When I picked it up the guy had the radio on fine and was listening to the stations no problem.

On driving it home the signal just dropped so I attempted to tune into a different station but with no joy.

I keep getting NO RDA, NO TA on the screen and at best case scenario get 10 or minutes in the morning before it cuts off completely with the same warnings.

I've tried different aerials and have taken the stereo out to ensure that everything is plugged in correctly (which it is).

Can anyone advise what the problem might be as it's the only issue I have and would love to get it sorted.

Thanks
D4

P.s. It won't take a CD either so I assume theirs one stuck in their - but i'm not bothered about that would just love the radio in full working order.

Thanks again

Hi d4funky1

The aerial has an amplifier built in, which needs power from the radio. This would be worth looking at, as the features RDS and TA are FM only features which use the external amplified aerial.

Ok,

It's safe to say that it's not the aerial.

Been down to Halfords and had them try 3 or 4 different aerials with no change.

Took the stereo out again whilst there just to confirm that everything was connected fine and still is.

Any further ideas?

Sorry if I didn't explain it enough, its the aerial base unit (that the aerial element screws into) that has the amplifier as far as I can see. Just unscrewing an aerial and attaching a new one won't do it.

As you had the radio out earlier, its worth checking there is 12v at the feed to the aerial at the back of the radio when its powered up. If there is no voltage here, then there won't be any power to the aerial amplifier. But just because there is 12v at the radio feed it doesn't mean the aerial amplifier is ok.

It looks like its the orange wire that feeds the aerial amplifier. The orange wire on the power plug, not the speakers one.

I found this previous post:

The official citroen way is to take the +12v for the aerial from pin 5 of the power connector on the stereo. Pin 5 (citroen:orange, ISO:blue) is a +12v supplied by the radio when its switched on (its an output). Pin 5 is also useful as the trigger wire for an amp and was commonly used to trigger electric aerials of the past.

This way your aerial amplifier is only powered up when the stereo is switched on.
Did you also make sure the aerial lead (fat black lead) was plugged in ok, rather than just the speakers/power plug?

Ok,

So i've bought a new stereo:

Which fitted and works fine except for the memory?

When i switch the ignition off and back on the presets have all gone etc etc

I've literally pulled the connection from the back of the old stereo and connected it to the new stereo via the extension cable (straight out straight in)

Surely the memory wire is one of those?

Any suggestions as to why this may be?

Thanks

Yes, its the pin 4 and pin 7 swap you need to do.

Just swap pin 4 with pin 7 on the iso power plug to get things working correctly.

That's great and looks like it's going to solve the central locking issue that just started happening once putting the stereo in.

I take it the power plug is the one with all the wires going into it rather than the one with just a few wires going into it?

Thanks again for your great help so far.

Just had a go at this pin change and they seem quite stiff when I noticed that the adaptor that came with the stereo has a red and yellow 'plug' if you will.

Would switching these so they connect to each other do the same?

Sorry for the small image but I think you can make it out

Failing that - any techniques on how to get these pins out?

Thanks again

There is a picture in the post above (a little down the page) which shows which pins are 4 and 7 and which is the power plug. It will be worth double checking the picture in the post with your extra lead with its wires that can be swapped over. It likely they are the right ones, as this is quite a common problem, but checking is the way to go.

The central locking issue is common when fitting an aftermarket stereo on a C3 and solved by switching pins 4 and 7 on the ISO power plug.

The one with the most wires are the speakers (2 per speaker x 4 speakers).

You could cut, strip and rejoin the wires to swap them over, use your adaptor or to get the pins out of the plug you may need to poke a small flat bladed screwdriver into the plug to release the pin - so many options. :)
