Heaters not blowing out hot air

Hi, hope all are well,

Have problem with the heaters not blowing out hot air. I have spent a few hundred pounds already to fix the issue but no luck. One garage said it was the thermostat so they changed that but no luck. Second garage flushed out the heater matrix but say the pipes are hot and don’t think it is the matrix although they said they could change it to see if it makes difference off course at my expense. I am really stuck, have it booked in with expensive local Citroen dealer on Tuesday but any help as to where the problem could lie would be massively appreciated. There are some heater control modules on ebay for £20-30 I’m thinking might try changing this first before I go to dealer to see whether it helps. When I change the air from hot to cold There is a slight a drop in blow pressure and something moving behind the dash but not sure if this is the problem. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Can you take a picture of the heater controls and attach it here, following these instructions.

This can identify which type of heater controls you have as it may be a control problem rather than a cooling/heating issue.

Sorry just a quick update, after messing around with the controls there is warm air coming from the vents on the dash facing the driver but no hot air from the vents that are directed towards the windscreen or at the footwell.

They last ok like mechanical controls. You probably have mechanical problems with the control cables, levers and gears.

Fiddling with them and curing some of it tends to make me think that's more likely.

Not being a late model diesel guy I have a few questions.

1) whats the point of the auxiliary heater (in a diesel)?

2) are we sure that's a mechanical type control panel?

Just an update took it to a local Citroen specialist, he says the water is not circulating properly near the radiator and says I need a new water pump most likely, can the water pump cause Luke warm heaters, obviously it’s a costly job. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Water-pump should have been changed at the same time as cam belt change because they are both linked.

Yes, but I would have expected engine cooling problems as well. Does your car have a light or gauge for the engine temp? If the heater temp is low then the coolant temp (all things being equal) will be low too. Not the best situation, but not as bad as a an over heating engine. So If the ENGINE is running cool...it's not the water pump! A (better) mechanic could put a scanner on your car and monitor the ACTUAL engine coolant temperature (while driving) and make a better informed decision.

The water pump doesn't have to be replaced with the cam belt. It's recommended, but completely up to the customer to decide at the time of the cam belt change.
