Hi,

I wouldn't mind a little more power from the beast that is our 72BHP 1.4HDI Pluriel engine. Re-mapping seems like an affordable option to add a claimed 10-12BHP and apparently brings potential fuel efficiency benefits too. What's not to love for around £140. Which got me thinking; there has to be a downside to this topic I know nothing about.

Our car is a 2008 Pluriel 1.4HDI. 102k on the clock with a full service history from new.
  • If I had the re-mapping done, is the engine going to explode in six months time?
Are there "different types" of mapping service to use / avoid?
Doe anything else need changing after the re-map (different filters, leads....?)
Thanks in advance.

Hello Steve

The few members that have had a remap have been pleased.

Yes, avoid the cheap or free remaps that have no support or any come-back. Go for a reputable company and read the feedback, trustpilot etc.

There are different re-maps, ones for more torque, ones for more power, ones for lots more power but needs better cooling etc.. Pick the one that is right for you. Some are more tailored to your car, some are just bog standard changes.

The basic re-maps don't require any extra parts, but, new plugs and coils and air filters wouldn't do any harm while the power is being increased.

Let us know which one you go for and who you choose to do it :)

Hello Steve

There's one other small but not trivial job to do if you go down the re-map route, you need to tell you insurance company.

Most insurance companies except that people make modifications and try to accommodate, if you don't tell them and the worst happens - you have an accident - they are very likely to use an un-notified mod to decline your claim.

Some companies who supply 'software' remaps will tell you that they can't be detected. This is not true, they can.
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all the evidence and pretend you never tried

As ever I'm indebted to you both, many thanks - I now feel better armed on the subject.

This week, driving to the Aldi car park. After the re-map ; Le Mans ?

Probably going to use a firm in Norwich, subject to checking their reviews as suggested. I'll be sure to post the outcome here.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi, see your post relating to the remapping and notice assurances of updates on how it has gone. Posted mid October and no reply. So did it not happen or have you just been to busy???
I'l local to you and have had mine done in Norwich. Recommend it 110%. I've had mine done and a good result was made with bags more torque. I did fit an intercooler beforehand and would strongly advise the fitment to maximize the benefits for you. Jigsaw and patience then you can mount one which will all look completely standard and original. Or buy another front panel from a 1.6HDI or a 1.4 16V HDI and the hole will already be there.

Thanks for your recommendation. It is good to get some follow up on these projects and I agree, it's frustrating when the topic tails off unfinished.

This is a chronic issue across the net on any forums, questions asked. Answers and advise given. Rarely does it seem to have a follow up reply so people are left to ponder. Was the correct fix suggested on the forum or did they develop a fix of their own or did they just give up and walk away passing onto scrapyard.....
9 times out of ten you google something (other search engines are available) and get reading through the posts and everything sounds like your symptoms and you get through 4 bloody pages, a cup of tea, half a pack of biscuits 40 minutes of time to what you expect to be the answer but no "nothing"!!!!!
It peters out to "NOTHING"!!!!!!!!!!!! Frustrating isnt the word. So you re-search again and find yourself on yet another hiding to nothing. Way to much "nothing" online. Nothing ever gets used to remove the "nothings". They are there for all eternity. If the W.W.W. was a country it would be a bleak place covered in plastic bags full of "nothing,"blowing around like tumbleweeds!!
