Key in the ignition, and the dashboard lights stayed dark; this was the first sign that something was not quite right.
Turning the key to the starting position and nothing, this was the point at which it dawned on me we were not going on our journey today.
Looking back, the lack of sound stood out as being unusual. No buzzing or whirring, no engine turning over, silence. Quite surreal.
What did work? The interior lights and the radio both worked. The headlights came on, and the green telltale on the dashboard showed when the headlights were on.
It seems like a flat battery, but a quick test of the terminals with my meter gives 12.75v, about 90% of the full charge. This is to be expected as the car has been sitting overnight.
Checking the diagrams and hidden MAXI FUSE (MF)7 supplies the starter motor via the ignition switch.
You could save time and go straight for the Hidden MAXI fuses, and particularly MF7. It is not the easiest fuse box to get to as it's a Citroen Dealer-only job, but you can do it yourself.
MF7 is arrowed, a blown 30A Maxi Fuse. This caused the car to be very quiet when trying to start the engine, except for the radio. There was an unusually dark dashboard.
Replaced the hidden fuse, and it started, more than once. I don't know why the fuse blew. FIngers crossed it will be ok from now on.
The starter motor is only a few years old, so I hope this is not a sign of the things to come.
The replacement fuse is not your normal fuse found in the other fuse boxes, these are MAXI fuses (here, amazon), and I had to pull it hard, using a pair of pliers, to release the grip of the fuse holder, damaging the old fuse in the process.
Non Starting, not turning over, no dashboard lights.
