The knocking sounded like the exhaust knocking the underside of the body of the car.

The noise could be heard on roads that were only slightly bumpy, on the motorway no noise, potholes didn't produce the noise but just generally poor roads would produce a hollow knocking under the passengers side of the car.

The suspension was investigated and one of the drop links fixings was found to be loose. Grabbing the drop link and tugging it allowed it to move - this shouldn't happen. The mounting nut was ever so slightly loose, tightening it up fixed the noise.

You can find replacement Drop Link Bars - HERE -on eBay if yours are more than just a bit loose on the nut.

The drop link, the suspension stabiliser link or anti roll bar link, the cause of my C3 knocking from under the car on bumpy roads.
