The engine management light was on and use of an OBD tool identified P0201,'INJECTOR ONE COMMAND FAULT-OPEN CIRCUIT'...
After disassembly it was apparent that the o ring was very damaged . Euro Car Parts wanted £70 for a replacement injector...
After a visit to a local bearing factors I was able to replace all four o rings for £1...
O rings installed, fault code cleared ,job done.

Thanks for the tip nikroc.
P0201 is an electrical fault, so the fault was probably cleared while disconnecting and reconnecting the injector connector.
Early cars had a fault where water drips through the washer jet hole, onto the injector plug, causing faults. Improved sealing washer jets can be found on eBay - here and are an easy fit.
As for o-rings, be careful that the material chosen is the correct material for the job its doing. Injector o-rings will require a particular type of rubber to give a long lasting seal. The universal packs of o rings may just not be up to the job. Not a critical o-ring disaster, but you may need to do the job twice

The 'fault' had moved from injector 1 to 4!...externally sprayed with electrical contact cleaner and left...fault cleared and so far not come back. Im thinking of taking the loom off and inspecting/cleaning if,and when the fault re-appears and maybe getting a 'new' injector loom.

Think I have sorted this now,but time will tell...
On closer inspection of the injectors and more specifically their connection to the injector loom, no 1 injectors retaing clip was 'loose' to the point where it was possble to actually pull the plug off the injector, without removing the u shaped clip that should hold the pieces together.
No 4 injector was missing its retaining clip!
Trip to the local breakers and four more clips later its back together and once again running on all four.
