Just a note, Citroen C3 on 04 plate.

Had to replace both front suspension springs.

Came back from a trip to NY USA with car parked in an airport car park, started no problem.

Went to reverse from the parking space and the car would hardly reverse. I thought one of the brakes was stuck on, tried again, no, something was up. Looked under the car to find the nearside spring had broken and jammed itself into the alloy wheel causing a nasty groove in the alloy.

The AA took us home.

I did a little research on google found the Citroen C3 should of had a recall to have cups fitted under the springs. According to VOSA / AA websites for recalls my vin was within recall numbers.

Phoned local citroen garage, no problem, they would fit new spring but not the cup, free of charge if I could get the car to the garage. I asked if they minded if I removed the strut and took it to them to fit the spring, no problem! I had to fit a new strut top bearing and tie rod, again free of charge. The spring had bent the tie rod on its way down and also damaged the top bearing. If you can see the balls in the bearing then its knackered. There's a small, very thin dust seal which is part of the bearing and it just breaks off when the spring drops.

So, I put it all back together and went to pull off the driveway and blow me down other side had gone whilst I was working on the car! wow!

I had to buy the 2 cups, very very easy to fit, but £48 for the pair inc the vat. Worth it I think. The springs could of gone at any time, motorway etc, peace of mind I think.

According to Citroen my vin was not supposed to have the recall ? but they supplied all new parts ? umm ?

Thanks m7jgp

Citroen C3 recalls from the AA website

Check if your Citroen C3s VIN is in the list of the cars affected by various recalls, then check to see if the work has already been done.
