i have an aftermarket radio which is working fine, however i think it might be the reason my child locks come on when i deadlock the car (i remember reading something about swapping pins 4 and 7 around or something) and i also would like to use the steering wheel volume controls to make it simpler to use, i understand i need a connects2 adapter but i am not sure which one and im not sure how to wire it in, do you guys have any experience with these adapters?

Here's a link to the Connect2 adaptor, there are others but this one seems OK Connects2 Website.
If you want to use your steering wheel controls your new radio must have a remote control input and you will need the correct patch lead. There is a list on the page linked above.
Fitting is simple, the adaptor is plug and go.

Ok, so that's the adapter i need and i guess i need the kenwood patch lead as the stereo fitted is kenwood, this may sound dumb but what do you mean by remote control input? some form of socket for the what would be the steering wheel controls to plug into? sorry i would know more but this radio was installed before i took ownership of the car so i am a bit of a noob to this, also i read you had problems with battery drain due to your connects2, did you manage to get that sorted out?Missing Lincs wrote:Here's a link to the Connect2 adaptor, there are others but this one seems OK Connects2 Website.

Exactly as you say, a socket on the back of the radio that the output from the Connects2 adaptor lead can be plugged into. Without a remote input there is no way to remotely control your radio. Most have this type of input, however I would check before buying the adaptor.samstagmoonyham wrote:i need the kenwood patch lead as the stereo fitted is kenwood, this may sound dumb but what do you mean by remote control input? some form of socket for the what would be the steering wheel controls to plug into?
What is the model number of your Kenwood?
Yes, it was down to some sort of weird combination of the adaptor and my Sony radio.samstagmoonyham wrote:also i read you had problems with battery drain due to your connects2, did you manage to get that sorted out?

i'm glad you got your problem sorted out, my radio model number is KDC-3047, well, that's what it says on the face anyway, i tried removing the actual radio before to allow more room to put bulbs in the heater controls and could not get the thing out(at least without breaking something), so i assume that will be the most difficult part of the job ahaMissing Lincs wrote:Exactly as you say, a socket on the back of the radio that the output from the Connects2 adaptor lead can be plugged into. Have a look at page s 18 and 19 of the manual which can be found here
Page 18 shows the wiring harness which has a remote control wire. This is good news as it means you should be able to use your steering controls. To do this, connect the appropriate wire from the Connects2 adaptor to the remote control wire.
Page 19 shows how to remove the radio using 'keys'. If you haven't got any they can be bought from places like Halfords or certain online auction websites. These are an example I'm not recommending the sellers, simply the first ones I got from searching.
When you get to fitting your adaptor you will find there's plenty of space below and to the sides of the radio aperture to slot the adaptor in. All the connections should just plug into the existing wiring on the car side and the radio (unless someone has done any hacking - hopefully that won't have happened). The only wire you may need to make a joint on is the remote, I would guess that the adaptor harness will come with a solution to this.

thanks for all that info, ill buy some of those keys and then the adapter i guess, i hope the wiring isnt spliced either, else my head will explode (i hate wiring lol), i thought the adapter i was going to need was £50 so that's quite a pleasant surprise, do you reckon any of this will effect my trip computer? i have the trip computer under my speedo and it works now, but above and below the button for the trip are the skip track buttons which are inoperative at the moment.Missing Lincs wrote:Have a look at page s 18 and 19 of the manual which can be found here
