Hello,

I was wondering if i can upgrade my radio to RD4N1M-03 that i have laying around, my car is C3 exclusive form 2004 and its fitted with normal RD3, as far as my research is going i need an ISO adapter for the RD4, also will the display work with the RD4, i've seen pictures and the display is looking a lot nicer, i have lexia so coding is not a problem.

If it helps its made by continental serial number is 96662669xt04

Thank you.

BR,
Hello BR

I have not tried to do this, but if the RD4N1M-03 you have to hand has the 'fakra connector' then you will need fakra to ISO, but if it ISO then just try plugging it in to see what happens.

You won't get any smoke ;)

But you may get a 'beeping through the speakers' and that will just need your lexia tool to match the VIN coding.

Thank you for the information,

Is there any way to see if the radio has Bluetooth until the cables arrive?

BR,
You can try it but the theory says no.
The communications system from the BSI to the radio and the BSI to the display in a Mk1 (pre 2005) is VAN bus. The same arrangement in a Mk2 (2005 on) is CAN bus.
RD3 is VAN, RD4 is CAN.
It should be possible to get the radio working but it will beep and you won’t be able to communicate with it to code it in.

Hello,

As stated in the last reply the RD4 will not work with my car.
I checked it in lexia and there is no communication to the radio.

Thank you for your support !!!
