I shall be obliged if someone could let me know the most likely cause of a loss of all reception on the FM bands, and poor reception on the AM band on my Picasso C3 car radio.

Do you still have the aerial on the roof?

My apologies for not replying sooner. Yes, i do have the original aerial which I have unscewed and screwed back on to check. It seems perfectly OK. To be more precise regarding the problem, I said I get no reception on the FM bands. In fact after doing many searches through the FM bands I find I get good reception on just one station i.e. a very local (Watford) station, but no reception at all on any other station. I took the radio out to check the aerial connection, not that I had any reason to suspect it may have been faulty, and it also seemed perfectly OK.

A connection to the aerial base can get corroded as the rain leaks past the seal. You can access it by removing the headlining. Disconnecting the aerial base and removing the nut holding it to the roof is possible. You can then check and clean any connections.
There is power running to the amplified aerial base; you should check that it has 12v, access is from behind the headlining.
It may be quicker and easier to try another aerial (like this amazon one), temporarily connected to the rear of the stereo, to ensure the stereo is ok before pulling the rear headlining, boot seal and various bits of trim off the back of the car.

Many thanks for the tip of trying a temporary aerial. I shall give that a try as the idea of removing the roof lining etc to get at the base of the aerial does not appeal to me. I did not know that the aerial was ampified. Perhaps the Aerial base has a power supply that is separate from the radio supply and fuses need to be checked.

Well, it is on the C3 2002-2005 that yours is listed as.
Further up the page you say its a C3 Picasso, which is usually very similar to the C3 2002 - 2005 in its configuration and problems.

I shall see if I can correct the listing for my car. It is a June 2015 Automatic.
Thanks for drawing the listing error to my attention.
