Hi all , I've just bought an aftermarket stereo and the adapters needed however even after following all other threads and testing the wires I am unable to locate the ignition wire in the harness.
I have attached pictures of the radio pins and the actual harness to see if anybody can help before I have to swallow my pride and ask the hubby.
The adapter I bought has a separate wire from the connector for the 12v ignition switch.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Angelah83

I'm not 100% familiar with the wiring of later cars but I think there's a pretty good chance you haven't got an ignition live. Most new cars switch the radio using coded signals in the car's CAN-Bus (similar idea to USB for plugging computers and other devices together).

If I'm right then there are two ways around this:-

1) Find an accessory which works of the ignition and isn't controlled electronically, the cigarette lighter/auxiliary power outlet might be a candidate, that's what the extra lead on the adaptor you have is likely to be for.

or if you don't fancy tracing wires and tapping into electrics

2) Buy a CAN-Bus adaptor which will read the electronic signals and generate the ignition live that you need. These type of adaptors are plug-and-play, one end goes to the car wiring and the other the radio wiring.
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all the evidence and pretend you never tried

Something similar to this may be suitable. Please check my information and the suitability if any adaptors before buying anything :D
