(2002) switched power lead does not turn off immediately

I have been trying to fit a Sony stereo to my 2002 C3. I have a harness and swapped the continuous 12V and switched 12V (yellow and red wires). I noticed that the stereo does not switch off as soon as I turn the ignition off - it turns off after about a minute. It turns back on if I press the fob key to open the door. The original stereo turned off immediately. Does this seem right? I am worried about it turning back on by itself.

Also how do you get the steering column controls to work?

Are there any other things I need to do to finish the installation of the new stereo? I was told that you need to short two wires out (something to do with the cars computer). I could not see any connection on the harness that looked like computer control lines (serial bus data lines). Have I miss understood something? There was talk of damaging the cars computer by puttin 12V on a data line.

Switching the wires over puts the radio power under control of the car computer, so I won't switch on by itself, only by computer intervention. This sounds good to me.

You will need something along the lines of this SONY - Citroen C3 Steering Wheel Adaptor With Free Sony Patch Lead this particular unit requires that your sony 'Stereo must have OEM stalk control input', not knowing which sony you have I can't vouch for its inputs.

I am unaware of this, shorting things out, sounds bad. Does the stereo work (excluding the stalk controls)?, if so, then that's it. job done.

This sounds right, don't mix data and power and don't go shorting things out.

Seems to be working now although I did find that I had a problem with the am radio reception - fm worked OK (ish).
AM radio reception was very poor. I Traced this to there being no 12V going to the aerial (must be an amplifier in the aerial base). I had to make my own connection to the aerial 12V connector and it works OK. I cannot remember seeing anyone mentioning this with regard to fitting an aftermarket stereo.

The aerial power for the citroen wiring does tie up correctly with the ISO spec (although the colours may be wrong, at least the pins are right). I would guess no one has come up against the problem you describe because the wiring adaptor managed to get that bit right.

The official citroen way is to take the +12v for the aerial from pin 5 of the power connector on the stereo. Pin 5 (citroen:orange, ISO:blue) is a +12v supplied by the radio when its switched on (its an output). Pin 5 is also useful as the trigger wire for an amp and was commonly used to trigger electric aerials of the past.

This way your aerial amplifier is only powered up when the stereo is switched on.
