Thanks for the picture for reference.

I've decided to visit the mechanic to get it sorted.

Do you mean on the floor or the engine body.

Thanks.

'Putting it on the ramps' will lift the car high enough to stand under it and look up.

There is also the option to drive over 'a pit' when the mechanic stands in the pit and the car drives over. This allows for a really good inspection of what has been going on.

You can't get a good view from just bending down and looking or lifting the bonnet and looking.

Good luck, Darren. My first car was a Citroen BX 16, bought for the equivalent of £1,200. I liked it very much and thought it was OK for the price. I've had it checked the next day and was quoted a repair bill of £2.400
Then I bought the Haynes manual...
I too have had a BX :) the TZD Turbo, in red. It did well, broken cambelt didn't stop it for long.

The green fluid leaked out all over the drive and it was never the same again

They also do a Haynes Manual for the C3 and that can be invaluable

:) Mine was the „Deauville“ edition, much liked by elderly people  Never had a smoother ride. And hey, no rust! Metal parts always covered in suspension oil and body was plastic 8-)

I‘d also recommend buying the Haynes, although nowadays they seem to be printed on toilet paper...

Then it's going to be either for the oil pressure switch or the oil level sender. I think both are grey and yellow. The oil level sender is in the middle of the block and the oil pressure switch is on the oil filter housing.
I would say it's the oil level sender otherwise the oil light would be on when you start the engine..
On the Mk1 dash the oil level is indicated by 6 "o"s on the bottom of the dash display. I don't know how the level is displayed on the Mk2's. If the oil level display is flashing on startup the connector is probably for the level indicator. However the oil level sender is notoriously unreliable.

I did have air-con as tested and had it running on drive but haven't tested recently.
Umm, no disrespect, but I'm confused. The connector is grey and yellow, so it's not for the aircon. Do you or don't you have aircon fitted to your car? Your statements seem conflicting. If the car never had aircon then the aircon connector is not in the loom, I know this for a fact. If your car does have aircon, then the loose connector is for the oil level sender.

On my Mk1 the oil level and oil pressure senders are wrapped in foil to protect the plastic connectors from the heat of the exhaust.

Arfur, does the MK2 have an oil level level indicator on the instrument panel? If there is no oil level displayed on the dash then the connector is redundant.
