Morning guys, I’ve got a Citroen C3 1.6 VTi 16v Exclusive 5dr – Automatic (61 plate) which has suddenly started making a hell of a load of noise after starting up, very much like either a blowing exhaust or some sort of air filter/induction noise, it’s always been a relatively quiet car but now it sounds like iv got a big boar exhaust and K&N air filter running on it, its only loud when your idle or very low speed, when you pick up speed the noise disappears and sounds normal again, I’ve had my local garage take a quick look at it and they couldn’t find anything wrong other than a couple of front exhaust mounting brackets that had broken, which they have fixed/welded, but it’s still making a right racket, they said it’s just “induction noise” but obviously something's happened in the last couple of weeks as its now much much louder than it ever was, any ideas anyone?

Hi terry6680

Any chance you can record a youtube video of the sound and add it to your question?

With the engine idling, have a listen to various areas of the engine with the bonnet up, it may sound louder nearer one part than another which can lead you to find the cause.

Maybe a dislodged air intake pipe, but the youtube will help :)
