I've just been to test drive a 2007 C3 VTR. I was very impressed apart from a transmisson noise when accelerating or decelerating. It sounds rather like a exhaust roar with a muffled clicking sound. The owner said it started about two years ago and hasn't got any worse. He's prepared to adjust the sale price to take this into account.

The car is a 2007 C3 VTR. It's done 80000 miles and the revised asking price is £1600. The rest of the car is immaculate.

Can anyone advise as to what this noise could be and whether I would be better to leave well alone.

Many thanks

Welcome to the forum Ommadawn

Its not something that sounds familiar to me, not a common problem that I know of.

Maybe someone else has heard this before?

But unless you know what is broken, you can't get a price to repair it, so its not possible to reduce the price by anything meaningful relative to the work required.

Thanks for your reply. I take your point about not being able able to adequately reduce the price of the car if it's not clear what's wrong.

The noise is bearly noticable (you can't hear it when the radio is on) and it disappears completely once the required speed is reached and you ease off the accelerator. It sounds like a normal engine roar but with a faint clicking or grinding). All the gears are easy to move between although the bite point of the clutch is high (I understand this is a feature of C3's).

The seller made a point of mentioning the noise - both in his advert and when I test drove the car so he clearly feels it's something which should be brought to my attention (or to cover himself).
