Hi everyone this is my first post :)

I've just replaced the head gasket on my C3 1.4 SOHC, I've come to torque down the head but I just feel the bolts are going to snap

the manual says 20NM then a further 240 degrees but I get to around 120 degrees using a 500mm breaker bar an I darn't go any more.

Lightly oiled the threads and under the bolt head......

Do i need a bigger bar, close my eyes and just a go for it???????????

All advice appreciated.

Cheers

Do you have the torque wrench set correctly? Worth double checking you are on Nm scale or set to 15 lbf ft.

Its advisable to fit new head bolts, the are not expensive.

You can do the torque in stages for the angle of 120° and then another 120° to get the complete 240°
