I made this video to make my point a bit clearer.
So the questions is whether or not that sound right at the end of the video is normal. It's the sound immediately after I've turn the key and have started the engine. The car does not make that sound every time I start up the engine. It skips doing it sometimes, but most of the time it does it and it's been doing it since I bought it (2nd hand, not new). Is it normal and what is it? Thanks in advance! :)

Pls have YouTube's annotations ON to make it easier for yourselves to understand what I am talking about cos I put an annotation note right at the time the sound appears.

The sound is not a normal sound. I have not heard it on a C3 before.

I can see in the video you have an abmer lamp on after the engine has started, is that the MIL? Do you have any outstanding faults recorded?

Its not possible to hear which direction the sound is coming from. Try getting someone else to start it and listen if its coming from the speakers or the engine and if its the engine is it the top or the bottom etc. You will need to start it quite a few times but with help of someone starting the car you can get a better idea of where its coming from.

Thank you for the replies!

The sound is definitely coming from under the hood (bonnet), not from the speakers and the sound is not coming every single time I start the engine. Maybe 8 out of 10 times, but it highly depends on whether you just turned on the engine for the first time during that day or if you start the engine after you had turned it off 3 min ago. Almost always when I start the engine in the morning, after the car had been to rest the whole night, the sound appears. And, on the other hand, often (but not always) after I drive for a while, then turn off the engine, and then a few minutes later I turn it on again, the sound does NOT appear. So it is not something that happens every SINGLE time. I will try to hear where exactly in the engine the sound comes from, but ... it will be hard. And the local pros ain't much of a help.

@C3CAR - as to the abmer and the red lamps ... they both go off very briefly after the engine starts, it's just that I cut the video before they go off, but they always go off soon after the start-up. No indications of any faults at all except that now and then I get a warning about the air-bags, but that lights another lamp, which indicates specifically the air bags (also has the corresponding symbol). Have no idea what the 'MIL' is.

Thank you for the reply! As far as I understand MIL is - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malfuncti ... cator_lamp

and as I said the MIL lamp is on only for a second or two and shortly after I start the engine it turns off, so I guess this means everything is ok with the engine. Or is it? Apart from that the MIL light does NOT light on while I am driving.

And still, as to the strange engine sound ... as I said it is from underneath the hood, but I am not good at cars so don't know what to do about it.
