Good morning
Hello everyone I have a 2006 stop start semi auto 1.4 16v desire model. My alternator drive belt came off I have the new one from gates 1029mm and a new gates T38312 tensioner pulley

The tensioner came with no instructions I have asked gates and online seller several times for instructions but nothing.
When I route the belt around all the items as per diagram and the fit the tensioner with the 2x bolts no tension is applied to the belt the belt just turn all cogs when pulled by hand except crankshaft as its far to loose.
Does anyone have instructions/ know how to fit this tensioner once bolted in place am I meant to cut the black rubber band around the spring to apply the tension? The band does say do not cut prior to assembly.
Any help advice would be much appreciated so far the 2 garages I've contacted have said bring the car to them but since the car had to be recovered to my house in the middle of the night and doesn't start that's not an option.
Kind regards

Hello

The band keeps the spring compressed while fitting (to make fitting possible)

Cut the band after fitting to allow the spring to expand and tighten the belt.

Don't cut the band before fitting, it will make fitting the tensioner very difficult ;)

Hi thanks very much I didn't want to cut and waste the unit without knowing for sure do I tighten the 2 bolts holding it in place fully or leave a little loose prior to cutting the band?

Tighten the bolts to the correct torque them you can releaser the spring pressure into the system by cutting the retaining strap.

I will see if I have the torque settings available

Your car bio says:

Model: Other
Year: 2006 (06)

The 2006 year is important and you need to say which model you have when dealing with engine information.

Post a picture of the actual front of your car (not a google pic), post the VIN or post a picture of the dashborard.

C3 II 5 DOOR SALOON 1.4 i 16v 90

Its a C3 2006 - 2009 (facelift model).

With an ET3J4 engine so the selection in the car bio for engine is ET3 16v (90PS)

Hello

When you joined the forum there is information about the car and engine to enter into the registration. You can alter these in the CAR BIO page. There is also a link in my signature for these settings.

The setting helps other see what your car set-up is so they can offer the right advice :)

You will see 90PS in the car bio screen.

You do not need diagbox to fit the tensioner and belt.
You can add an avatar to your account - Avatar or change your vehicle details - Car Bio or even add a signature to your posts - Signature. But this is not all you can do in the User Control Panel :)
