Writing this for my mother. She has a citreon c3 auto stop start. Petrol on a 55 plate. On the odd occasion in the last year the car will not fire up. The ignition comes on but nothing. Eventually after about 5 minutes the car will start. This problem has gotten more frequent in the last month and sometimes taking 20 to eventually wanting to start. I had a go yesterday at driving it. It started first time. Drove car a mile and stopped. Turned ignition on whist pressing brake and nothing. After 15 minutes it eventually started. Not sure if it's the switch behind the pedal or something more serious. Any help would be much appreciated

If you want to test the switch behind the brake pedal, you could just substitute it or if you have the tools to test a switch, test it.
Citroen C3 brake pedal switch available here.
But there could also be a brake pressure switch on the brake servo unit
No 4 for stop and start. (part number 457406 - pressure switch)
No 3 for other models that don't have stop and start.
