hi there could someone help me with my c3
i have a 1.1 petrol desire serviced annually it seems to have a intermittent fault while slowing down to reach junctions where the engine dies
it takes a couple of turns to start again then it is fine for a while. also it seems to be using oil, on the dash display it goes down 1 square over a period of 2 days i have had a citroen garage look at both problems on 3 occasions they have put it on the computer and no faults reported they have checked the car for any leaks and not found any. I have not seen any smoke come from the exhaust in the morning and seems to run/start fine the car does around 300miles a week
any suggestions would be great

p.s great forum

1 square for every 2 days. There are 6 squares to 4.5 litres of oil, that is a lot of oil being used, assuming you trust the computer.

What does the dip-stick show?

Could be plugs, coils, or fuel control (like the idle control valve - ebay).

hi thanks for the reply I had a Citroen garage check the car on Monday they topped up the oil to max and checked over the car no problems today Wednesday has dropped one square as far as I can make out the level on the dipstick is on max. I have noticed today the car seems to tick over slightly lumpy sort of like a cat purring ;) the exhaust is clean as a whistle no carbon/oil build up and no smoke
is the idle sensor A easy change? thanks

Who knows why its not working? Could be wiring, sensor, display, computer. It will need some investigating.

There is a sensor for oil level next to the oil filter housing, which may be a good place to start looking for problems.

Electrical connections are often a cause of problems with the C3, maybe clean the connections to the sensor?

Never mind the oil guage, just check the dipstick regular. If you didnt have an oil guage that would be your normal action.
Also recomend as C3 says check wiring conections including those around the fusebox and computer. In this respect i mean move the wiring harneses a bit. Might sound a bit silly but worked wonders on my C3 especially regarding cold start idle and general performance. ( Fonze like ).

Hi, yes your oil level sensor may be playing up but how much oil are you actually adding? If you are needing to add oil to make the gauge read full regularly then unless it is getting too full, it is leaking or being used. If the dipstick is like mine showing only the full mark (and relying on the gauge to see any fall) you can see if it is overfull with a daily check. If it maintains the level on the stick then the gauge is faulty. If not, it is a different problem.
My own gauge does show overfull occasionally, but mostly it is consistent showing a constant level.
