november last i got foriegn body in timing belt, jumped a tooth or two then head off, new valves and belts.
since then i have been getting 31.3 mpg average as shown on the guage. this has recently rose to 33.5 with the better weather but prior to the strip down it was 39.
even 39 wasnt good for a 2004 1.4 desire.
btw just over 100,000 miles. mostly local trips at mo.
poor economy

Fuel consumption can be affected by binding brakes, low tyre pressure, and different driving styles to mention a few.simonplatt wrote: ↑Sun May 20, 2018 9:08 pm november last i got foriegn body in timing belt, jumped a tooth or two then head off, new valves and belts.

Typically a head gasket won't change the economy...

Hi I have a similar problem, have just bought a C3 PICASSO EDITION PURETECH on a 17 plate with only 1600 miles on the clock. It is at the moment giving a reading of 32.8 mph. It is a 1200cc. I have had it on the setting which gives a continuous readout and it shows in the 20's on acceleration and well into the 50's to occasionally above 100. Any help or advice greatly appreciated, do I need to book it in to have anything checked. Thanks. p.s. this is the 3 rd Picasso I have owned others were 1600 diesel great economy wish I hadn't have upgraded now.

Try a brim to brim check, you may get a better idea of the actual usage of fuel over the miles rather than trying to interpret the computers figures.
