hi getting this fault.
the temp gauge goes from nothing to 3 bars and beeps, the fan is pretty much always on, the car water is not boiling hot so its not overheating.
sometimes the c3 will not start.

would this be due to the coolant sensor maybe ?

thanks in advance

Hi watercooled.

Could be the sensor is faulty or damaged - short/open connection through the loom to the engine ECU.

Sensor change would be the quickest and easiest and if that doesn't cure it, check the wiring back to the ECU.

You can try Euro Car Parts website to identify the right sensor for your model.

Some engines have a second sensor for the dashboard display temperature and some have a second switch for an overheat signal. It would be worth changing both, as they are cheap and it would be easier than trying to work out which configuration you have.

sensors are fine.
traced it to the wiring, just before it enters the ECU there is a break in the wire.

previous owner sold it to us knowing they had an issue with it.
we got it for a bargain and now fixed by myself and your help so well happy with it.

sorted :)

Good detective work. Well worth putting in a few hours to trace the problem and better than an ECU fault.

Thanks for the update and the solution :D
