With the car being only a few weeks old to me I would like to check something if I may. C3 1.4lx. on turning the ignition on the ecu does the dash board light check then almost everything goes out, the one that concerns me is the oil light comes on during the test then goes off. should it go off after the test or should it stay on until I've started the engine? I don't want to change the switch for it if that's how they work on these cars.

This is correct, the light goes off and stays off until a problem is detected.

There is lots of computer control on the citroen C3, as you will find while owning one and things don't always behave in the 'classic' or non-computer way that many older cars did.
