Start the engine.

With questions like this, please explain if it turns over or not, if there is fuel in there, if there is a spark, if the timing belt could be broken etc.My car activated economy mode refusing to start what should I do
You can also mention if you have a remote fob and recently changed the battery in it.
All the information about when the car first refused to start and how the non starting manifests itself can be useful to help diagnose the problem remotely.
Eco Mode is not your problem, rather it is a sign that you need to fix whatever is stopping the engine from starting and eco mode is not the cause.

This is just a guess but being a 1.6 VTR I would say the gearbox is a sensodrive.
If that is the case (again just a guess) there is a fault in the sensodrive and it needs to be addressed.
