On a short journey today the c3 started to shudder as I pulled away from a junction , as if I was in the wrong gear . Car now shudders on a stand still and pulls away very slowly , code reads something like "random/multiple misfires " engine code flashes and goes off , however problem continues . When I start the car it idles rough and then there's a click as if something happens , it then runs slightly better for about 10 seconds , then rough again and clicks again and continues doing the same in a continuous loop . I know there are a number of possibles , coils , plugs etc , however does the click indicate anything ? , Any help would be appreciated .

Just a thought , last week I broke down , appeared to me that although car read 1/4 tank the symptoms were pointing to no fuel , got a fuel can , put £5.00 worth in it to get me to a petrol station and it was fine , just thought it was interesting as never had the gauge read incorrectly in the past

P300, multiple misfire (on more than one injector.)

Maybe running the tank out of fuel has allowed the filter to clog? (Is you fuel filter in the tank?)

Could be a fuel starvation that causes misfire, due to the filter or a blockage?

I did think about that , however it has been running fine for 2 days since , I also wondered whether the fuel pump had died 2 days ago , however as I stated putting £5 worth of fuel got it going , if it is a filter issue would going for a blast down the motorway sort it ?

I think if the fuel filter or system is partially blocked then a blast won't do it any good, but it has been known to clear some faults. It has to be worth a try though.

I've tried it , it didn't work and I didn't want to push it too hard as is probably only firing on 3 cylinders , tomorrow , I'll try plugs and coil pack , coil pack is £75 at eurocarparts , could be worse , I'll let you know , it's shaking like a fairground ride at the moment !

Misfire is typically related to plugs/coil pack. Clicking might be spark discharge.
Pull coil pack and plugs out. Check ceramic insulator on plug for oil or moisture. Check plug gap for build up or excessive ware/gap. Check rubber boots on coil pack. Should be flexible not carbonized.
Run the car at night in the dark. Look for eronius spark or corona discharge on outside of coil pack.
