Oh thanks!!! :D :D :D :D :D

That symbol comes on when spolights on, and was convinced i had the "proper" dipped symbol as well to start with (and sure it's in my manual), so thanks for setting mind at rest.

Check engine light decided to come on again the other morning (this time the A444, exciting). ran fine, so will just wait til get day off and nip back to the garage. wouldn't bother to be honest, but as we never got to the bottom of the car conking out in the middle of rush hour, am just erring on side of caution.

Thanks so much for all the help and advice, as i said, only had my first car this last month (took me 14 years to get round to resitting the test! :D  ) so all of this has been really helpful!

Roland, did you get to the bottom of your P0420? I've had it coming up about once a month for a year now; car has always run fine, and the cheapo ODB tool reads it (always P0420) and clears it, then it will be several more weeks before it comes on again.

As this car is not worth much, it's not been a huge priority for me to figure out what's causing it. If I should be more worried, people can feel free to chime in an give me grief for ignoring it for a year!

Also, Jayneey, who determined your '02 catalytic converter should be replaced under a warranty? Sounds too good to be true, and I want in on it!

Hee hee RDN, well my handy local garage who sold me the car did so with a three month warranty, and it's still under that. And he was the one who found out it was iffy after asking around. took it in saturday and got it fitted, and when i collected it he showed me the dodgy one. on the collar, there was a tiny hole in the welding, and fumes getting out, and was sooty outside which it shouldn't be. i just stood and made agreeing noises whilst he explained it (having mistaken me for a grown up). am wondering if i can get a better mpg now, am currently on 42.
and yes, i did inflate my tyres. must get those breezeblocks out the boot tho...
