Hi, yesterday my car cut off and I called AA. The patrol said the fan belt is missing, most likely snapped off whilst I was driving and I had to leave the car near a garage overnight.

My question is, do garages keep fan belts in stock or I need to come back at a later date? They're about to open in an hour and I need the car by this afternoon.

It's an 05 plate 1.6 SensoDrive.

It depends on the type of garage - a Citroen main dealer should have one in stock and could fit it very quickly whereas a small independant one almost certainly won't keep one, and will order one in from an independant stockist and it will be delivered by van.

Hopefully you have it sorted by now.

Euro Car Parts (here) carry a good range and will do 'click and collect', great if there is one local to you and you need parts in a hurry.

Hi, all sorted. The garage was closed, AA took it to my local garage who asked for parts and got delivered in an hour. He noticed that the pull/tensioner was slightly cracked towards the outer end but said not a big deal to leave it as it is.

Charged £40 for everything - a mobile mechanic quoted £125!

Also, there's certainly less noise coming under the bonnet, can a worn out fan belt cause some noise?

Anyway great to be on the road again!

YES
The noise is your warning to get it checked soon before it breaks ;) ;) ;)
