Could be an air intake pipe become damaged? Check pipes in the engine area are secure and don't have any holes in them.katsam10 wrote:My c3 ,53 plate 1.6 sensor drive has starting making a whistling noise and today I noticed a sort of burning rubber smell.any advice?
The burning rubber smell could be a pipe touching something hot or a plastic bag on the exhaust, its worth having a good look over the car to investigate.
I don't think its a sensodrive issue.

is it a whistle or is it fan belt squealing. A relatively easy one to diagnose rev engine a few time squeal will get higher then lower also turning something draining i.e the headlights will make the squealing change note. it would account for the sound and the smell of burning rubber too. also to note if its got ac or not as with ac the alternator belt does go round this so make sure all pullys are turning and i.e the ac one hasnt jammed. if it is fan belt generally a quick easy fix if it only need tightening.

Also check (after checking the 2 above), that the cam belt tensioner is not jammed with a stiff bearing, the smell could be burned cam belt.MATTHEW LOMAX wrote:also to note if its got ac or not as with ac the alternator belt does go round this so make sure all pullys are turning and i.e the ac one hasnt jammed.
