This can give you greater confidence in the cause of the fault by revealing the hidden error codes stored by the car.
As you have found, it's easy to remove the TPS, but its not so easy to get into the working of it. Swapping them over is quick and easy, but if the fault is not cleared, you will still need to read the codes.
This this Citroen C3 P1161 topic has a TPS fault. ( P1161 is Permanent fault, Throttle position copy) which did bring up the engine light.
Turned out to be a poor connection on the plug/socket of the TPS.
Permanent fault Throttle position copy P1161.
Citroen C3 TPS removal topic here may help you.
