So then I have oil leaking from somewhere under the car. Had a leak around the drain plug that was fixed but found another but don't know what the place is called it's coming out of. It's the silver thing in the picture that's zoomed in on in the other.
Thanks

Not sure which bit you think the oil is coming from. The picture shows the base of the oil filter housing.
You have engine oil EVERYWHERE. Even on the air conditioning compressor, right at the front of the engine bay!
I would recommend buying cans of spray de-greaser and cleaning all the front of the engine.
ONLY wash the front of the engine. Do not get water anywhere else in the engine bay.
There are two electrical connectors (maybe wrapped in foil) on the front of the engine. One on the oil filter housing and one on the engine block behind the aircon compressor. I would pull the connectors apart and dry these out with "air duster" spray cans or ensure they are kept dry. Then run the car to check where the oil is coming from.
If you believe the point in your photo is the cause of the problem I do not know if there is a gasket there or if Citroen has used "gasket goo" as a sealing compound. Are the bolts tight? That point comes straight from the oil pump so the pressure there is going to be considerable. That might explain a lot.
In the Saxo's, that point (where your photo was taken) had a spin-on type oil filter but for the later engines they installed the current oil filter housing and element type filter. Bit of a step backwards if you ask me.

Yeah there was a gusher of a leak as you can see by it being everywhere, i am sure it's coming from the silver part as it seams to be oozing out the bottom, will have to try and see how tight the bolts are, yeah the a/c compressor and cabling took the brunt of the oil, maybe that's why the a/c is being temperamental.

Arfur, I seem to be having the same problem with my 1.4 petrol.
Is there a gasket under the oil pump out let? Can you tell me the part number please?
I've got to get a copy of SEDRE that works.

Hi Ozvtr
the seal for the 'Engine Oil Sump Filter Probe' - the bit shown in the photo above is made by o-rings.
Marked 'B' and 'C' on the diagram. The part number is 1103.L8 (available here) for the 3 o-rings - 'A' is the common one on the oil filter housing.
The same part is used on both the 16v and 8v 1.4 engines.

Thanks Arfur.
There is oil under the sump and I can not ascertain the exact source of the leak (there is oil every where). I was afraid it might be coming from the head gasket as there is a leak there, but the leak is too small to contribute so much oil and the pool of oil is not directly under the head gasket leak, more towards the centre of the engine. Then I remembered this thread and it seems to be the most likely answer.
I will wash all the oil off and try and document it.
