Hello all,
I have a Citroen C3 2005 1.1 petrol. Had it a while it’s great, I drove 3 hours to Wigan and as I got there the temperature gauge went right up and I had to stop, 4 months later after driving for about an hour I had the same problem. Coolant level is consistent (no leaks I hope) any ideas? I’ve looked all over google with a few tips but wondering if anyone else had any ideas? Thank you x

Hi Bardell

You need to be sure the engine is actually overheating. It may just be a fault with the temperature displays which is pretty common on the petrol engines.

Change the engine temperature sensor and the problem may be cured if its just the display/sensor.

If the engine is actually overheating, that is, the coolant is getting too hot, then the engine cooling fan may not be working properly or the thermostat may be stuck closed.

I think you need to dig a bit deeper to diagnose what is and what isn't actually going on under the bonnet.

Brilliant thanks, it does actually overheat. Fan is working fine and the coolant seems to be doing it’s job, no loss. I’m veering towards the thermostat and the coolant sensor which are the two parts I can’t really check as far as I’m aware. Thanks for your help much appreciated.

You have to remove the thermostat to test it, then you may as well put a new one on in its place anyway.
CItroen C3 thermostat for 1.1 petrol engine 2005
CItroen C3 thermostat for 1.1 petrol engine 2005
Number 6 is 1336.Q2 thermostat and body

Number 5 is 1338.A6 (blue) or 1338.A7 (green), they part changed over the years with different wires. The blue one has 3 wires but the green one has 2 wires.

Number 3 is 'engine water drain screw' but is a bleed screw too by the looks of it.
