When I start the engine on my 1.4 automatic the engine makes a ticking noise, it’s constant and speeds up with reving. It’s coming from the top of the engine, doesn’t seem to be any kind of belt. Maybe an injector ? Does anyone have any ideas ?

Hi

Valves are at the top, they speed up with the engine RPM and operate at twice the engine RPM

It could be a tappety sound, that's valve and tappets make those sounds when they are not working properly.

You can find them at the top of the engine, under the cam cover.

Not a simple job.

But you may find an oil change could quieten things slightly.
