At engine speeds above tick over, from about 1000rpm, the engine speed hunts, or fluctuates, by about 250 rpm when in neutral, on pulling away it can cause the engine to almost stall, so I have to keep the revs up.
I have taken the car back to the dealership who told me this can be normal on C3s. Anyone else had these symptoms?
Ian.

Hi. Did the demo car you test drive do the same?

This is not normal and the engine should behave properly.

I suggest you take it back to the dealer and speak to someone else because it's not right.
