engine accelerating on its own

My daughter has an 03 plate petrol,semi-auto. She tells me sometimes the car will accelerate on its own and she has to brake to stop this. But its an intermittent fault and doesn't do it when i take it for a test drive. I have lexia, but won't be able to get on it till the weekend. Any ideas on what it could be

Hi Deano, read for faults with lexia would be a good first step, and deal with those.

You could have a throttle body problem, see a bit common for these to get dirty or bad, but I would focus on any codes first.
