When I bought my 2002 C3 1.4i LX last year I knew the dipstick was broke, I bought a replacement and used it once and left it out, using the old one to block the tube. I went to dip the oil last night, pulled the old one out and put the new one in to check level, it jammed about an inch before being fully in, with a jiggle I got it all the way in, went to pull it out and it came up about 3 inches and jammed again, gave it a good tug and up it came. Only problem is it left the entire plastic end piece in the tube.

My question is, does the dipstick tube pull out? or will the tube end be accesible if I remove the sump?

I know that if the pieces drop into the sump that they will be alright in there but I would really like a proper dipstick, going to make my own though but I think the bits haven't and won't drop out the tube.

Hi tonentrace, looking at the drawing of the dipstick tube:
TU3 JP Dipstick tube citroen C3
TU3 JP Dipstick tube citroen C3
Shows only one mounting point near the top of the tube, there doesn't appear to be any fixings at the bottom so I guess its just an interference fit.

The end of the tube looks like its going to be visible with the sump removed, or at least enough to recover the broken parts. The dipstick tube has quite a bend in it which is only going to hinder rather than help.

If you do manage to get the dipstick tube out, some photos would be nice :)
