Came back from holiday to be told car cut out when being taken to cark park. It was extremely cold when the attempt was made and it transpires that cam belt has jumped off pulley causing internal damage. Why should this have happened? 2013 C3, 3 cylinder engine with mileage of 12995

Hello ag5561

Difficult to say why without more details or seeing what's happened but I would say definitely something that shouldn't have happened. On such a new car with low mileage I would be thinking about contacting Citroen and searching the internet for others that have had similar experiences.
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all the evidence and pretend you never tried

Unfortunately I don't know any more information. The car was perfect when we left it and had the cam belt off with a damaged engine when we returned to pick it up. No joy with internet search and Citroen say talk to a technician!! As the cam belt runs inside the engine and in oil it has been suggested that over revving on a very cold engine was the cause. Could do with that view confirming or an alternative cause (design fault??)

Hmmm....I have a policy of always parking in a long stay car park myself when going on holiday. It always concerns me what happens when you hand over the keys to someone to go and park it somewhere in a remote field god knows where!
