Hi I have a 2004 1.1 c3 was working fine then next day i tried to start it but but it wouldn't, it would turn over but not start.
It then went into economy mode on dash with engine light.
Now i have just changed the crankshaft sensor as i have seen that this was the most likely thing to be wrong.
This hasn't made any difference, but doing this i have noticed something that i think is wrong.
Should the crankshaft sensor have two wires going to it, also the alternator should that have two wire to it too.
Both of these only have one, and the green on both sticks out about a cm and doesn't go anywhere.
It looks like a very clean deliberate cut to the green.
Is this my issue with not starting, should i put a cable between the two?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Can be caused by several different faults. Do basic checks for fuel (and remove the fuel cap). Then diagnose with a OBD scanner (click here). This will give you a code that will cross-reference to a fault that can be investigated.

If a wire has been cut, where is the other end?

Thanks Arfur for you quick reply.
Its just that i have seen on the web that you test a crankshaft sensor by by putting one end of the cable to ground the other to will go back to the fuse board.
On the videos its the green that's to ground, which is the one that's missing.
Am i correct.

Hello ian4316

Reading your first post, the car was running fine, something went wrong and now it won't start.

Unless you cut and removed any wiring which I would assume you didn't, the wires you suspect to be missing must have been missing when the car was running. On that basis I think it safe to assume that they are not required and/or the car will run without them?

I would suggest you follow Arfur's guidance and conduct some basic fault finding. You've already spent time and money on a new sensor which wasn't faulty and without evidence to work with you will end up spending more time and money guessing/replacing.
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all the evidence and pretend you never tried

I have checked the car again and there are 2 wires going to the crankshaft sensor.
There are several fault codes that i have found with my basic obd11 scanner they are.
P1B00, P0711, P2800, P0322.
Any suggestions.
Thanks

Thanks for the codes.

With all code reading, try this:

Read the codes and note them down,

then try to clear the codes, delete them or erase them, whatever the scanner calls it.

Then read the codes again.

Only the most recent codes and relevant codes will appear and you have a record of the older codes to look back on.
