Hi,
I've been reading the forums a lot lately, eventiualy diagnosing my non-starting, lights always on, wipers going, C3 with a BSI fault. I've sent this off to repair with BBA-Reman and it's come back with a note stating "Programming required before starting the vehicle".
I thought the repair of the BSI would allow me to connect it up again and off I go. Assume now I have to get the car to a dealer to do something with their computer kit to sync? the car the BSi again??

Any advice?

Thanks.
Peter

Hi Peter, the lexia clone tool is the short cut to doing dealer things at home. The lexia is a clone of the dealer tool and is run from a laptop/PC.
"Programming required before starting the vehicle".
This does sound as if the programming has been lost, you could ask BBA-Reman what repair they did to your BSI that necessitates reprogramming, it may even be on the paperwork, but it won't help you get the car started.

I guess it would depend on what was broken. If the bit that stores the data about the car was broken, then you would loose that data if the part was replaced, on the other hand if a power stage was blown, then you could expect the data to be untouched.

Investing in a lexia clone would mean you can do the dealer programming and use it on other faults/cars or just sell it.

ok, thanks. I think I'll look to getting a Lexia tool.
Assuming I've got this, is the process straight forward to do the 'programming'?

Thanks

Lexia has quite a steep learning curve for many people, its a dealer tool, rather than a consumer tool. But once you get to grips with it you can do everything the dealer can do. I don't see why anyone couldn't learn to use it, but I suppose it helps if you can use a computer and understand the menu system to get the most from it.

You can always ask a question if you get stuck ;)
