Hi knightrider

Welcome to the citroen c3 forum.

If you are mechanical competent and have the right tools, then you can save money by doing the service yourself.

You don't get the stamp in the book, but that may not bother you considering the savings you are making.

You should the do the service that citroen recommends at the mileage that citroen recommends for your usage.

There is absolutely no money to be saved by doing a service that's not required.

I heartily recommend you buy this book (Haynes Manual for CITROEN C3 PETROL & DIESEL) if you are considering doing any work yourself, even if its just to see that its beyond your ability. This book covers 2002-2005 and some even 2002 to 2009.

The Citroen manual "Maintenance Guide" will tell you what needs changing/checking and at which mileage. - This is the one that needs to be followed. Any more and you are not saving money.

If you would like to cost-up the parts, then try clicking here for Euro Car Parts site

Service 'kits' of parts required can be found quite cheaply here: Citroen C3 Service Kits (petrol engine)

and service items for a diesel Citroen C3 CItroen C3 Service Kits (Diesel)

You will also need Diesel engine oil (Citroen C3) or

Petrol engine oil (Citroen C3) but double check before you buy as there are several variations of engine fitted to the C3.

do you service your car ..yourself?

I do and have done for many years. Partly due to the cost savings and partly because I can and treat it almost as a 'hobby' :)

oil and filter change as i have no ramps to get underneath
oil change tool for Citroen C3 (no ramps)
oil change tool for Citroen C3 (no ramps)

Its quite easy to get a tray or Slim Oil Drain Can under the car without ramps. The Oil Drain Can is designed to be thin enough to slide under the sump without ramps and make it easy to take the used oil to the recyclers/disposal site.

An oil change is probably one of the easier, after air filter, services that need doing. It can help build your confidence if you manage to complete successfully. With the right tools and instructions, I say, give it a go. (read the haynes manual for the safety and procedure before you start).

Tip:
Disposable Vinyl Gloves - Medium - Box of 100 (here) are a 'must have' when dealing with used engine oil.
