Firstly i have a engine management light on that i have not got around to checking yet but almost sure it is just a faulty lambda sensor. Battery is not holding charge, have replaced the brushes in the alternator but it did not fix the problem, should a new alternator fix this or could it be something else?

Ok my main problem is a whining noise that the car makes, (while accelerating it sounds like it is an electric car slightly)
Aswel as this i was pulling out of a car park one day and the car just completely died and refused to start for a few minutes. My friend who i bought it off just mentioned that it has electric problems as they were driving it one day approx 60km and the car just died aswel. Drives very good 99% of the time but their must be a small issue. Anyone experienced something like this?

Could be a bad battery?

If noise is relative to engine speed, check smaller rotating parts of the engine, like the cam belt idler/tensioner alternator belt tensioner etc and if the noise is relative to road speed, look at drive train parts.

This is not good. Its not a common fault as such, but some models had problems with earth leads that were too short. On accelerating the extra movement in the engine mount disconnected and earth and the engine would stop. Not sure if this is your problem but worth checking for recalls and short earth leads ;)

Thanks for the reply, just replaced the alternator and the problem seems to be fixed.
