I would get a second opinion because manual gearboxes don't slip.

Manual gearboxes don't slip, but they can pop out of gear or are difficult to engage into a gear, which can be caused by a worn out gearbox, worn gear control cables or bad hydraulic clutch control.

If you accelerate and the engine revs rise, but the car doesn't accelerate as much as it should, this is probably the clutch slipping and not a fault with the gearbox.

Noises could be clutch, gearbox, engine, etc,.... It depends on what noise you can hear.

Whatever you have, its going to be best to take it to a garage and let a mechanic have a drive of the car to help diagnose the problem.

Gearboxes and clutches can be expensive to change and the gear control cables are not cheap, so its best to get a proper diagnosis before changing parts.
