Hi,
I have a 2015 C3 and the engine needs rebuilding due to a dead cylinder.
I had P1336 and P0200 P203 and P206 all point to a misfire. After doing a compression check there is zero PSI on cylinder A. It is 60psi on cylinders B and C which seems low as well but I’m not sure if that’s right for this engine , anyhow, it needs to come out unless someone knows how to remove the head without removing the whole engine.
Does anybody have or know where I can pick up a second hand/used engine which could be cheaper and lots less hassle.
Thanks in hope.
Ken

I would guess with a 3 cyl on 2015 it will be the VTi 68C3driver52 wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 8:24 pm
Hi Ken
Can you identify which engine you have in there?
The full VIN number may help with that.

60 psi is low for any engine. Bad valve seat or piston rings.
0 psi, hole in the piston or valve stuck open (even just slightly).
My guess is carbon build up on the valve seats, or valve stem. What was the oil consumption like?
You would have to imagine that if that cylinder wasn't reading 0 psi it would probably read 60 psi too.
It's also possible that the other 2 cylinders are also heading toward 0 psi (for what ever reason).
For less f'ing around you would replace the engine.
But it would be nice to know why the compression dropped through the floor on that engine.

Thanks for the eBay link - that’s really useful.
I guessed it’s a valve or piston.
I have just found out that the oil consumption was high so I’m not going to rebuild this one.
I’m certainly going to take it apart and see what is wrong.
It seems as the head will only come off once I get access to the cam which is inside the housing behind the fan belt.
EBay has second hand engines for around £300 which is going to be a lot less hassle than tearing an engine down and rebuilding. The gasket set is probably £100 before I start.

Fit a second had engine for speed in getting it back on the road.
Strip down the broken one for knowledge of why it failed.

High oil consumption and poor compression would indicate bad rings.
SOP these days is to go for low friction rings .That is; the pressure that the rings exert on the wall of the cylinders is low. The theory is that this reduces over all friction within the engine and increases fuel economy. In practice the engine compression drops quickly. This can also lead to dilution of the oil because fuel gets past the rings and down into the oil!
