I have just purchased a 2010 Citroen C3 1.6 hdi exclusive, 90bhp, with 57k on the clock. It runs really well but is only doing 35mpg local and 54mpg on a long run, using cruise control. My previous car was the 2003 version of the C3 hdi which was achieving much better mpg!
I have changed the airfilter and put injector cleaner through the engine with no improvement.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Regards,

Dave.

Hi arthurdaly, welcome to the forum.

I would suggest you don't believe the computer, but do a proper test to see if there is a problem with the engine or just a problem with the reporting.

Fill up to the first click at the pump, record the odo on the dash, drive till nearly empty, fill up to the first click again and record the quantity of fuel need to fill up and take the odo on the dash again.

Then you can work out MPG from the figures, see how they differ from the computer display for economy.

Let us know how you get on :)

Thanks for the reply!

I have already confirmed the accuracy of the mpg computer figures by doing exactly as you have suggested. I forgot to mention also that the car passed an MOT in September so the emissions are ok.

Dave

An update on the mpg issue!

The injector cleaner my wife purchased from a supermarket did not have much effect on the situation. It was an obscure make and she put it in a full tank of fuel ( as most cleaners do instruct ).

I have put Wynns injector cleaner in when there was only 1/4 of a tank left. Then took the car for a high speed dash down the local motorway.

Problem solved! It is now showing 58mpg, local, instead of 33mpg! No long trip planned for a while to see if that mpg is any where near the figures in the handbook.

Regards,

Dave.
