Hi, I'm new to the forum and have a problem! I have a C3 54plate 1.4 16v Hdi SX that has developed a restarting problem. The car starts 1st time from cold but once warmed up won't restart but turns over without firing until 3/4 attempts. If I happen to be on a hill it bump starts immediately. Any idea as to what the problem is? Thanks in advance.

Hi Ken01

When you try to restart and it turns over, does it turn over particularly slowly, slower than it does when you first start?

Thanks for your reply, no it turns over same speed as normal. There's no warning lights or fault codes coming up either

If you want to read fault codes, you should use a code reader, like lexia (info here).

Which fault code reader did you use?

Not Lexia. I have a Clarke EOBD/OBDII engine diagnostic tool. Seemed adequate up till now.

The 16v has the delphi injectors and these are often abused with a lack of water draining and filter replacement. This gives a more rapid rate of wear. Poor hot starting on a diesel, with an absence of codes stored or other things like the starter motor can be due to worn injectors or fuel pump. Its the injectors that would be my next thing to look at because these are often neglected.

You could try a 'leak-off' test to prove the state of the injectors. This would give you something to go on.

This is the How do I perform a leak off on a 1.4HDi 16v? topic.
