Hi,
Recently took my '08 1.6 diesel in for a service, returned to me emitting a high-pitched whining/screaming sound (siren- like), called garage and they suggested replacing the (unspecified) "hose", which they presumably did. Upon collection, the vehicle is now making a low-pitched whine/groan and is very sluggish under acceleration: as this post might indicate, I am not technically-inclined, so any help, albeit ostensibly obvious, would be greatly appreciated!

If it didn't make the noise before the service I would suspect the garage didn't do something correctly and its their responsibility to put it right.
They are best placed to put it right if its something they touched because they know what work they did.
Other things to do are to check the vacuum hoses are all on correctly and undamaged.
And think about the sound, does it change pitch or volume with engine RPM.
Does it only sound when the engine is running,
Is it road speed related, engine load related or RPM related or neither...
Sluggish could be the MAF and its a quick check for MAF.

Thanks for your reply. The first post was written for me so I'll try and elaborate.
When the car was delivered back from it's service I noticed that there was a high pitched siren like noise when accelerating. I called the garage to let them know and they collected it the following week to sort it out. They said at first they thought it was the turbo and then said the hose needed replacing and they were waiting for the part. It was delivered back to me a couple of days later and they said everything was sorted.
I didn't test it at the time, the guy seemed quite confident, so I took his word. But when I did take it for a drive a couple of days after that, it was giving off a much lower pitched siren noise on acceleration and there is no oomph when accelerating ... the power has gone.
Basically I am losing faith in their ability to diagnose and fix it. The service was arranged through Servicing Stop. The whole thing has been a nightmare though because it's so difficult to get through to them on the phone. One day I tried 8 times holding for more than 15 minutes each time and still couldn't reach them. Never again!
I paid £400 for the service and some other bits and pieces they said needed doing and they would only deliver the car back once that was paid.
I have emailed them and am waiting for a reply but in the meantime I have had to make a 30 mile round trip today (Sunday) and will be repeating that on Monday and Tuesday as I am attending a conference and it is not easy to reach on public transport.
I am worried that I may be damaging something by continuing to drive it. The engine light is not on so I'm hoping that's not the case.
I am going to try and take it to a garage tomorrow which specialises in Citroens which I have used before and which is very good, closer to the conference centre (but quite a schlep from my home).
I guess I would appreciate your thoughts on whether you think it is ok to be driving it and what would be the best course of action. I am furious to now be in a position where I will probably be paying someone else to put right the faults of an already expensive service but I can't bear to be dicked around any more or waste any more time. I've had it from new and it has only done about 30k miles. I have never had a problem with it, it's a great little car!
Thank you so much for any light you can throw.

You must have a bill and list of parts that got changed for £400BRITA wrote:I paid £400 for the service and some other bits and pieces they said needed doing and they would only deliver the car back once that was paid.
What did they change?
