a diesel engine not revving, could be due to a lack of fuel getting to the cylinders.

Are you blowing white smoke?

Hi midbedspompey, I have been thinking about your problem, but not come up with much. The tappety noise could be 'tappets' as you have had the valves out, but the engine would still rev and if it wasn't tappets, but diesel knock through the injector fire seals, it would still rev.

You say the timing is ok (and not 180 degrees out), so the only other things I could suggest is that the computer is not understanding the accelerator control, but I don't really see how this is connected to your 'head off' job.

Not much help, sorry.
