hi all ive read a few posts but its not really be the right response so i hope its ok to post this if not and ive missed a similar post please delete. anyway ill get to the point ive bought a 2nd hand c3 1.4 hdi 2003 model and there is no response in low revs at all its a crawl up to about 2500 revs in 2nd then it seems to kick in and then as soon as i go into 3rd it drops out then again when revs get higher it kicks in again and off i go the same through all gears. there is no management light on but it has done 146.000 and the spanner is on and it says -77000 so i guess its not been serviced at all as it should be. This is all the info i can give at moment on this issue if you require anything else im sure i will find it for you any help on this that anyone can give me i appriciate thanks

Hi mlocky657, this is your topic and other cars with similar problems may have different causes.

Unplug the MAF and drive the car to see if things either a) Improve, b) stay the same or c) get worse.

Then let us know your findings.

Citroen C3 MAF disconnect plug to test
Citroen C3 MAF disconnect plug to test

This is the MAF disconnected for a test drive.

When you let us know your results, I can suggest some other checks or tests to do, depending on the results :)

No difference means its not a MAF fault, which is one of the common ones.

So start with the easy stuff and check the condition of the air filter, then check the pipes from the turbo to the air filter. You can also blank off the EGR system to determine if that is causing any problems. Get a EGR blanking plate from this link (ebay) and fit it. There are some pictures of the EGR valve here.

Then, before changing any expensive parts, getting any error code would be the next step if there is nothing obvious to see in the engine bay. The best tool to get a full coverage of all the C3 codes is Lexia/Diagbox clone (ebay). Use this to get the error codes.

There is a topic covering Lexia here which gives some information on the tool.

That is a shame i thought you were going to say that is the fault someone else told me tonight that they had the same fault but theres was MAF and what they did was spray carb cleaner on the wires only the wires a few times when the engine is not running he said this worked for him. But now you have said that Im not a happy chappie. Ive checked the air filter and that is fine next thing is the egr valve i guess if this blocking erg plate i think you called it works when fitted what will i have to do? Thanks again for your help.

You could just leave it there ;) it does no harm. But if you don't want to leave it there then you will be looking at repairing the EGR system.

Well, you can try that but with disconnecting the MAF and there is no change is not going to be a MAF fault because its not part of the system when disconnected.
