Hi all,
PLEASE can some one help.
I have a 2006 1.6 hdi exclusive which is now averaging 35 to 40 MPG around town instead of its normal 55 MPG.
I have no warning lights, no fault codes and no leaks either fuel or air, Ive replaced the fuel and air filters the old ones were well
inside the service period. The car starts well, pulls like a train and apart from the MPG drives exactly as it has for the past 2 years.
I have Lexia but the laptop is playing up and when I can find the leak down kit I'll check the injectors. A Maxidiag 704 shows no fault
codes, all appears normal except for the poor MPG, I'm now at a total loss.

Kind regards to all Ian

Fuel consumption can be affected by things other than the engine...

Tyre pressures low, seized brakes (probably rears), extra load in the boot and just to mix it up a bit, a problem with the way the MPG is measured and recorded.

Hi Arfur,
thanks for the reply, I am a stickler for maintenance, the tyres are 2 psi over pressure as the last set were half worn in the middle
while the had it on the outer, checked the brakes when first noticed the poor MPG and they're definitely not binding and only my
usual, not much in the boot. Even when towing our trailer tent we normally get 60 MPG also the drop is about 30%, 10% I wouldn't
worry too much till the weather warms up and I always brim too the top and check the mileage, these last two times I've done 250
miles and used 6 gallons, enough for 360. thanks again for you're reply and maybe changing the filters will help.
I'll keep you informed.

Kind regards Ian
