It depends on what colour the 'diesel adative' was. Do you know what they added, and just as importantly, why it was added?

The garage said it would benefit my engine having the adative , don't know what they put in , I just don't believe they changed it , being so black

Some of the additives, ones based on molybdenum give a dark grey colour to the oil.

The oil should be golden yellow to orange depending on which oil was added. As you say, dark black is old engine oil, in fact very old engine oil. Sometime the new oil can pick up some of the old oil and discolour it, but your is reported to have been flushed, so this isn't the case.

Its not unheard of for garages to not change the oil filter or even the oil after paying for it, but it rare and needs to be investigated by a trading standards body.

Do you have any pictures of your dipstick and the oil? Maybe we could make some comparisons with other C3s?
